Some are happy and some are sad.
Yesterday, Sam and I celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary. We had a wonderful day reflecting on all the events that brought us together. Our 5 month whirlwind romance. The stress and relief of meeting the in-laws. Our midnight walks on the beach. Our virtual elopement. All happy memories.
In May we celebrated our 3rd anniversary of becoming debt free (except for our current mortgage). It took us 5 years, but we paid off nearly $100,000 in accumulated debt. Woo-Hoo!!! What a great feeling of freedom that comes from that accomplishment. We’re now in a place where we are no longer slaves to our cash, but masters of our lives. Also a good day.
In April, we marked the first anniversary of the release of Sam’s first book – IOU NO MORE. This book chronicles our journey as we worked to get free of our mountain of debt, and it details our plan for reducing our debt. It’s short, sweet, and to the point. It offers HOPE to people who are trapped beneath a mountain of bills and a short pile of cash. It’s a great book that has helped hundreds, if not thousands of people. Check out our website to learn more about how you too can become debt free: www.iounomore.com.
There are many other happy dates for us as well:
*August 2000: our daughter marries the love of her life in Scotland, and we inherited a first class son-in-law.
*September 2000: our son moves over from Scotland, and in with us.
*August 2001: our first granddaughter, Jessika Heather was born!
*August 2002: our second granddaughter, Kaya Dawn was born!
*June 2004: our third granddaughter, Lana Belle was born!
*August 2004: we bought our first house in Maine.
*January 2007: our daughter, son-in-law and 2+ granddaughters moved to America and in with us!
*February 2007: our fourth granddaughter, Zoe June was born!
*January 2008: we moved from Maine (where they got 193″ of snow last year) to sunny Georgia, where we purchased our dream home and burned our snow shovel.
*May 2008: we sold our house in Maine! PTL!!
*September 2008: our first grandson, Glenn Douglas was born!
We have many happy days to celebrate. The Lord has blessed us in remarkable ways. But there is also a very sad day we remember every year. Today is that day.
You see, as happy as we were yesterday to celebrate the anniversary of our marriage, we’re equally as sad today. Today marks the 7th anniversary of the death of our first beloved granddaughter, Jessika Heather. That sweet angel graced the earth with her presence for just 10 short weeks before the Lord carried her home. To this day we’re not sure what happened as her death is classified as a SIDS incident. All we know is that she went to sleep on the chest of her earthly father and woke up in the arms of her heavenly father. And if there is any joy to be found in this day it is that knowledge, and the anxious expectation I have as I await Jesus to call me home. My bags are packed and I’m ready to go, because there is a sweet little girl up there I’m just dying to meet.
