Life is so much better when you have Heinz Salad Cream in it. I love this stuff. The taste is so unique, and it gives food such an amazing flavor.
Sam used to eat it all the time when he lived in Scotland. He’d make salad sandwiches with some mature Scottish cheddar, a little lettuce and fresh sliced tomatoes, and loads of Salad Cream. Oh how he used to rave about those sandwiches. It wasn’t until we moved to Kentucky and started shopping at Jungle Jim’s in Cincinnati that we were able to get “real” Heinz Salad Cream.
I remember the first time we bought it. All the way home Sam was going on and on about how good this stuff is, and how it takes sandwiches to a whole new level of tasty. And of course, he had to retell several of his stories from the old days. Stories about how poor he was, and how he could only afford 49P bread and cheese so he ate salad sandwiches with Salad Cream for three meals a day…..blah, blah, blah……..
To describe the flavor of Salad Cream is difficult since it has such a complex flavor. In trying to isolate the taste to one common taste, I would have to say it reminds me of deviled eggs. It’s tangy (similar to Miracle Whip tang), creamy, slightly sweet, slightly buttery, a bit eggy, somewhat lemony, and entirely heavenly.
If you’ve never had it before, it works best on sandwiches, but it can be used on crackers, on summer sausage, french fries and chips, as a dip for veggies, or just straight out of the jar! It is the best condiment ever.
